What if We Do Not Act Now?
TPP estimates that we have a 12-month window to reverse current trends. Failure to act will almost certainly lead to loss of the remaining forest and further fragmentation of land, causing the extinction of the Giant Ground Pangolin in Kenya and the loss of other species unique to the area. The wider ecological impacts would include loss of a key wildlife breeding area supporting the Greater Mara Ecosystem, its wildlife and tourism economy, as well as degradation of critical water catchment for wildlife and communities downstream.
Be the solution!
Help establish 10,000 Ha (24,000 acre) Community Forest Sanctuary that secures a future for Giant Pangolin and all biodiversity in Nyekweri. The sanctuary will protect wildlife and forest from threats including land conversion, fencing and poaching, and enable the development of nature-based revenue streams for local economic development. We aim to restore up to 4,000 Ha (10,000 acres) of degraded forest and recover the ecological integrity of the area.
Safeguarding The Giant Pangolin population is critical – as a key indicator of a healthy ecosystem and a powerful symbol of community support to conservation.
