  • Founded in 2020, The Pangolin Project - Kenya’s only organisation dedicated to the conservation of pangolins, Earth’s most trafficked mammal – is now on a mission to save Kenya’s Giant Pangolin from extinction.

  • Mission: Working for the protection and safety of all pangolin and the habitat on which they depend

Vision: Where Pangolin populations thrive and are valued by those living alongside them, existing in an environment free from the threat of poaching and their habitats are an abundance of biodiversity that can support viable pangolin populations.

  • The Nyekweri Forest, found to the west of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, has lost 80% of its cover in the last decade. Home to the only known population of Giant Pangolin in Kenya, this rapid degradation threatens not only Giant Pangolins and other wildlife, but also local community livelihoods and the region’s ability to regulate water and climate. Fewer than 32 Giant Pangolins remain, their survival hanging by a thread due to habitat destruction and dangerous electric fencing.

The next six months are critical because the window to save Nyekweri is closing: without conservation leases providing tangible benefits, landowners will turn to farming. With your help, we can create a 25,000-acre sanctuary that secures this unique ecosystem, protects Giant Pangolins, and provides thriving futures for both the unique species of Nyekweri and the people.

  • Aligned with our five-year strategic plan, we aim to:

    • Expand pangolin habitats to double their population to 60 individuals.

    • Secure 25,000 acres of key habitat through conservation leases.

    • Remove dangerous electric fencing to save wildlife.

    • Restore degraded land, unlocking carbon credits and eco-tourism for local communities.

  • Since 2022, The Pangolin Project has:

    • Halted the complete deforestation of Nyekweri.

    • Reduced Giant Pangolin fatalities from electric fences by an estimated 90%.

    • Secured conservation commitments from over 135 Maasai landowners in Nyekweri, protecting ~4,000 acres.

    • De-electrified 72km’s of fencing.

    • Gained the trust and respect from ~60% of landowners.

These milestones are the foundation of a bold, scalable model of conservation success.

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference

We must raise an initial $2,000,000 to secure Nyekweri’s future without delay. With $1,100,000 already raised, we urgently need $900,000 more by the first quarter of 2025 to implement these solutions before the window to Nyekweri closes.

Unrestricted investments to The Pangolin Project will ensure we can act swiftly and prioritise the most pressing needs.

Your involvement today can secure Nyekweri’s future tomorrow and create a sanctuary where endangered wildlife flourishes, communities thrive, and a critical ecosystem is protected for generations.
